International Handwriting Day
January 23rd is International Handwriting Day, when we focus on the importance of handwriting in our lives, all the more so in this age of digitalization. On this Tuesday, three members of SILA IWCL, Anna Kim from Russia, Sandhya Singh from India and Takako Kimura Ude from Japan visited Kolezija Primary School, Ljubljana, accompanied by our president Lali S. Ilic and Irena Debeljak who has longstanding relation with the school. We were greeted by the headmistress Mrs. Nina Triller at 8 am and first had general session with all the children of 8th grade, where Lali S. Ilic explained about the important impact of handwriting to our brain and overall wellbeing. Then we split into three chasses, where each of us presented Cyrillic, Hindi and Japanese characters respectively. Children seemed interested to learn about a new world of writing system, then wrote these characters themselves and answered quiz. One school hour seems to have passed very quickly. Afterwards, we wrote down message for the school in our respective languages, which would be displayed on the wall. Mrs. Nina Triller kindly showed us around the school, and we were impressed by the spacious and well equipped art room, their own ”National Gallery” with the pupils’ masterpieces, and with the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the school overall. It was an amazing experience for all of us. We hope to carry on this new tradition of SILA into the future.
